Subject: adding indexing to eplain
Have y'all considered adding indexing to eplain? To
elaborate: this would create an auxiliary file with
extension .idx containing the index entries (and
subentries, and their appropriate ``print'' names). It
is up to the user to do with the index as they see fit.
Typically they use makeindex and \input the sorted .ind
file with a formatting of their choice.
Right now, I find I get neat indexes by \input'ing
idxmac.tex (available on CTAN). idxmac.tex is an
extract from latex.tex and contains a lot of
LaTeX-specific deadwood needlessly copied. The file
can be pruned to a fraction of its size when added to
eplain.
